Email Headers

Description of email headers and their usage.

Email headers identify particular routing information of the message. It includes details about the sender, recipient, subject, sending time stamp, receiving time stamps, and much more.

They are very useful in troubleshooting common issues, such as tracking spam and investigating bounced messages. The most recent details generally appear at the top of the header, so reading from bottom to top traces the route from origination to final receipt.

See Actions for instructions on how to obtain email headers in various environments.
