Use Web File Drop

A utility to share files with security options from your WPI personal storage with anyone by providing a specialized web link.

The web file drop facilitates distribution of data among collaborators via the web with security options, including a random directory name and password. The creator may also select a description and notification options. Data is stored in the creator's WPI personal storage. Any passwords set are distinct from the creator's WPI password, so other data in the home directory is not compromised by using this mechanism. The creator provides the URL and the directory name and password, if set, to the collaborators.

Web File Drop Options

  • Description: A description is shown when uploading, downloading, or in email. It is an optional note explaining the planned use for the file drop directory.
  • Password: While the drop will have a long random name that secures it, setting a password is also an option allowing only people to whom the password is provided to upload and/or download files in this web file drop directory.
  • Name: If selected, the name appears in notifications. If only one person is using the file drop, it may be unnecessary to ask the person's name upon upload and/or download.
  • Email: Email addresses listed here are notified when content is uploaded and/or downloaded. Enter one fully qualified email addresses per line, not names. Note: If there is no email address, it won't ask for a name since there is no place to send the name.
