iCloud Calendar Spam

Some Apple iOS device users have reported receiving Ads and Spam as Calendar invites on their devices.

Why

Spammers have started sending calendar invites en masse to icloud users for sales and generally spam items.

Impact

In addition to being annoying, these links could contain viruses or malicious content. ITS recommends that users do not click any links contained within these invites.

It is recommended that users click delete and do not decline or accept these meetings as this can alert spammers that an account exists.

Action Needed

If you do not actively use your iCloud account, users can change their iCloud settings to avoid these invites.

  1. Go to iCloud.com and login with your iCloud info.
  2. Go to Calendars. Click the gear icon and select Preferences
  3. Click on Advanced
  4. Scroll to Invitations and select the option to receive event invitations via email, rather than as an in-app notification.
  5. Click Save
